Travel cusco

Cusco is a city located in southeastern Peru, near the Sacred Valley (Urubamba Valley) of the Andes mountain range. The city of Cusco has a population around of 300,000, triple the figure of 20 years ago.

Situated on the eastern end of the Knot of Cusco, its altitude is around 3,300 m (10,800 feet).

The historic capital of the sun-worshiping Inca empire, Cusco was found in 2006 to be the spot on Earth with the highest ultraviolet light level.

Inca history

The city of Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire (1200s-1532). Several believe that the town was planned to be shaped like a puma.

The town had 2 sectors: the urin & hanan, which were further divided to each encompass 2 of the 4 provinces, Antisuyu (NE), Chinchasuyu (NW), Collasuyu (SE), and Qontisuyu (SW).
