Arequipa is Peru's third most important town(after Lima and Cusco), and it is situated just below the edge of the Peruvian Altiplano.

The city of Arequipa is known as the 'white city', because several of the buildings in the area are built of sillar, a local white rock.

Arequipa is a region in southwestern Peru. It's bordered by the Cusco, Ayacucho, Ica and Apurímac regions on the north; the Moquegua Region on the south; the Puno Region on the east; and the Pacific Ocean on the west.
